    This medicine is used for the treatment of a severe form of acne called nodular acne characterized by large, inflamed, painful acne lesions deep under the skin. It is used in patients who have not responded adequately to therapy with systemic antibacterials and topical therapy.

General Warnings
  • Exposure to sun

    Use of this medicine can cause adverse reactions of the skin on sun exposure. You should either avoid stepping out at daytime or take appropriate precautionary measures.

  • Contraception

    Appropriate means of birth control should be adopted while using this medicine. It can cause oral/hormonal contraception failure and hence use of multiple contraception is advised. Contact your doctor immediately if you suspect a pregnancy while using this medicine.

  • Donation of blood

    It is advised to refrain from donating blood for 1 month after stopping the use of this medicine.

  • Diabetes

    This medicine may alter the blood glucose levels and hence should be used with extreme caution in patients with diabetes mellitus.   • Hearing impairment

    Use of this medicine may cause disturbances in vision. Report any incidence of disturbance in the vision to the doctor.

  • Hyperlipidemia

    This medicine has been associated with an increased level of lipids and triglycerides in the body and hence should be used with caution in patients suffering from hypercholesterolemia and other associated diseases. Close monitoring of the clinical condition, appropriate dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required in some cases based on the clinical condition.

  • Driving or operating machinery

    This medicine may rarely cause dizziness, drowsiness, visual disturbances, etc. in some patients. It is advised that you do not perform any activities that require high mental alertness like driving a vehicle or operating machinery if you experience any of these symptoms.

Dosage

  • Missed Dose

    Skip the missed dose and continue with the regularly scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for the missed dose.

  • Overdose

    Contact a doctor immediately if an overdose with this medicine is suspected. Symptoms of overdose may include a headache, dizziness, vomiting, stomach pain, tingling and stinging sensation of the skin etc.

General Instructions

Take Accutane capsule 20 mg 10’s as instructed by the doctor. Follow all the directions mentioned on the label. Do not take in larger or smaller quantities than prescribed. This medicine should be taken with food. The symptoms might get worse in the initial phase of treatment.

what are the adverse effects of Accutane capsule 20 mg 10’s?

Dryness, erosion of mucosa. Monitor for keratitis with dry eye. Alopecia. Rise in liver enzymes and serum triglycerides (risk of fatal pancreatitis). Nausea, headache, drowsiness, sweating, mood changes, neurological disorders, psychiatric reactions, seizures, menstrual irregularities, myalgia, arthralgia. Reversible haematuria and proteinuria. Occasionally, hearing loss, allergic vasculitis, thrombocytopenia, visual disturbances (warn patient as can be sudden; refer patients for ophthalmological examination and consider withdrawal). Rarely, facial hyperpigmentation, hirsutism, acne fulminans, lymphadenopathy, blood dyscrasias, increased transaminases, triglycerides, cholesterol and blood glucose. Reports of benign intracranial hypertension (discontinue), decreased night vision.

What happens if I miss a dose of Accutane capsule 20 mg 10’s?

Adults: Initially 0.5 mg/kg body wt. daily as a single dose or in two divided doses with food for 4 wk. Adjust according to response in range 0.1-1 mg/kg body wt. daily for a further 8-12 wk. Repeat courses are not normally recommended. Children: Not recommended.
