Amoxillin capsule 500 mg 100’s is used in the treatment of infections of the throat and airways leading to lungs namely Tonsillitis and Pharyngitis caused by Streptococci and Staphylococci strains of bacteria.

Allergy
This medicine is not recommended for use if you have a known allergy to Amoxillin capsule 500 mg 100’s or any other antibiotics of Penicillins and Cephalosporins groups.

Allergic Reaction
Amoxillin capsule 500 mg 100’s is likely to cause moderate to severe allergic reaction and the likelihood is very high in patients who are known to have an antibiotic allergy. Report the occurrence of any such reaction to the doctor on priority.

Diarrhea
Amoxillin capsule 500 mg 100’s is likely to cause diarrhea. It may be a mild episode requiring no specific treatment or a severe case of colitis or Clostridium Difficile-Associated Diarrhea (CDAD). Chances of occurrence are very high in patients having a history of diarrhea after using antibiotics. All such instances should be reported to the doctor on priority.

Mononucleosis
This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with Mononucleosis. Amoxillin capsule 500 mg 100’s is likely to cause rashes and bumps on the skin if the patient is suffering from Mononucleosis.

Drug-resistanceThe missed dose should be taken as soon as possible. It is advisable to skip the missed dose if it's already the time for your next scheduled dose.
Usage of Amoxillin capsule 500 mg 100’s without sufficient proof or suspicion of a bacterial infection should be avoided. Irrational dosing might fail in providing the benefits and even cause toxicity. It may also increase the risk of development of bacteria that are drug resistant.

Renal impairment
This medicine should be used with caution in patients with known history of renal diseases due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects. Close monitoring of kidney function, appropriate dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required in some cases based on the clinical condition.

The missed dose should be taken as soon as possible. It is advisable to skip the missed dose if it's already the time for your next scheduled dose.

Seek emergency medical treatment or contact the doctor in case of an overdose. Symptoms of an overdose include convulsions, change in behavior, or a severe skin rash.

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a history of Mononucleosis since these patients may develop a skin reaction/eruption. Replacement with a suitable alternative should be done under your doctor's supervision.

Inform your doctor if you have any history of gastrointestinal diseases. Report any incidence of severe diarrhea, abdominal pain, and blood in stools to the doctor immediately.

General Instructions

How to use Amoxillin capsule 500 mg 100’s
Direct IV push over a period of 3-4 min; IV intermittent infusion over a period of half to one hour after addition of Dextrose 5% or 0.9% NaCl infusion fluid.
what are the adverse effects of Amoxillin capsule 500 mg 100’s?
Hypersensitivity reaction, GI upset. Rarely hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice, haematological and CNS effects, pseudomembranous colitis, increased INR, acute generalised exanthematous pustulosis.
What happens if I miss a dose of Amoxillin capsule 500 mg 100’s?
ORAL: Adults & Children over 5 yr: 250 mg three times daily. In severe cases the dose doubled. Children: 1 mth- 1 yr: 62.5 mg every 8 hr, the dose doubled in severe cases; 1-5 yr: 125 mg every 8 hr, the dose doubled in severe cases.
Severe or recurrent purulent RTI: Adults: 3 gm twice daily.
Acute UTI: Adults: 3 gm repeated once 12 hr later.
Gonorrhoea: Adults: 3 gm single dose.
Dental abscess: Adults: 3 gm repeated once 8 hr later.
Prophylaxis of endocarditis: Adults: Single 3 gm dose one hr before dental procedure from which bacteraemia may arise. Repeat 6 hr later if necessary. Children: Under 5 yr, 750 mg; 5-10 yr, 1.5 gm. Both 1 hr before dental procedure from which bacteraemia may arise.
Otitis media: Adults: 500 mg every 8 hr. Children: Under 3 mth, usual/max dose, 15 mg/kg every 12 hr. Above 3 mth, 20-40 mg/kg daily in 3 divided doses, max 1.5 gm daily.
INJECTION: IM/IV: Adults: 500 mg IM every 8 hr, or 1 gm IV every 6 hr for severe infections. Children: 50-100 mg/kg/day divided in 3 doses by IM or divided in 4 doses by IV.
