What is it prescribed for?

Bronchitis
Bactigen tablet 320 mg 7’s is used in the treatment of bronchitis which is an inflammation of the lungs caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae and some Mycoplasma pneumoniae.

Pneumonia
Bactigen tablet 320 mg 7’s is used in the treatment of community acquired pneumonia which is a common type of lung infection caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae.
When not to use?

Allergy
Avoid if you have a known allergy to Bactigen tablet 320 mg 7’s or any other fluoroquinolones.

Tendinitis or tendon rupture
Avoid if you have a past history of tendinitis or tendon rupture after using this medicine.

Myasthenia gravis
Avoid if you have a past history of myasthenia gravis or family history of myasthenia gravis.

Tendinitis and tendon rupture
Use of Bactigen tablet 320 mg 7’s will increase the risk to develop tendinitis or tendon rupture during the treatment or several months after treatment. It will affect the shoulder, hand, back of the ankle, or other parts of the body. The risk is more if you are above 60 years of age and have a history of kidney, heart, or lung transplant and joint disease. You are also at high risk if you are on corticosteroids like dexamethasone, methylprednisolone or prednisone.

Drug-resistance
Usage of Bactigen tablet 320 mg 7’s without sufficient proof or suspicion of a bacterial infection should be avoided. Irrational dosing might fail in providing the benefits and even cause toxicity. It may also increase the risk of development of bacteria that is drug resistant.

Pediatric use
The safety and effectiveness of this medicine has not been established in children and adolescents less than 18 years of age.

Central nervous system effects
Bactigen tablet 320 mg 7’s should be used with caution in patients suffering from epilepsy or other CNS disorders. Discontinue the treatment if any symptoms appear until the exact cause is identified.

Impaired liver function
Bactigen tablet 320 mg 7’s should be used with caution in the patients with the history of liver impairment due to the increase in the risk of liver enzymes.

impaired kidney function
Bactigen tablet 320 mg 7’s should be used with caution in the patients with kidney disease. If CrCl is less than 40 ml/min, the dose should be reduced by 50%. Adequate hydration is maintained to prevent accumulation of the medicine.

The missed dose should be taken as soon possible. It is advisable to skip the missed dose if it's already time for your next scheduled dose.

You may experience tremors, restlessness, anxiety, confusion, hallucinations if you suffer from CNS disorder and use Bactigen tablet 320 mg 7’s or other fluoroquinolones. Avoid using caffeine-containing products like coffee, chocolates and energy drinks.

Avoid taking this medicine if you experience severe diarrhea, abdominal pain, and blood in stools. Inform the doctor if you have any gastrointestinal diseases. Drink adequate amount of water to prevent dehydration.

Avoid using this medicine if you experience any chest discomfort. Regular cardiac function tests are to be performed if you have any heart disease (arrhythmia) or family history of heart disease.
General Instructions
Take Bactigen tablet 320 mg 7’s with or without food. Do not take in larger amounts than advised. Consult the doctor if you experience any undesirable effects. Do not stop taking the medicine before completion of course.

Headache, Dizziness, dermatitis, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, increase in transaminases, haemostatic imbalance, tremor, urticaria, vaginitis, vertigo.
What happens if I miss a dose of Bactigen tablet 320 mg 7’s?
Adults: 320 mg once daily. The following are the duration of treatment.
Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis: For 5 days.
Community-acquired pneumonia (mild to moderate severity): For 7 days.
Children: Not recommended.
