How to use Bredin Infusion 10 mg 1 Vialx50 mL

Via drip tubing in D5W or NS or Compound sodium lactate. Not to be added to infusion container, administer via an infusion pump through a Y-piece into a central catheter.
Compatibility: Incompatible with polyvinyl chloride giving sets or containers.
Stability: Nimodipine infusion solution must not be mixed with other drugs. It is advisable to continue administration of nimodipine infusion solution during anesthesia, surgery and angiography. Protect infusion from light.

UNLICENSED USE
Children: INJECTION: Treatment of vasospasm following subarachnoid haemorrhage under specialist advice only: IV infusion: 1 mth-12 yr, initially 15 mcg/kg/hr (max 500 mcg/hr) or initially 7.5 mcg/kg/hr if blood pressure unstable; increase after 2 hr to 30 mcg/kg/hr (max 2 mg/hr) if no severe decrease in blood pressure; continue for at least 5 days (max 14 days); 12-18 yr, initially 500 mcg/hr (up to 1 mg/hr if body-weight over 70 kg and blood pressure stable), increase after 2 hr to 1-2 mg/hr if no severe fall in blood pressure; continue for at least 5 days (max 14 days).
ORAL: Prevention of vasospasm following subarachnoid haemorrhage: 1 mth-18 yr, 0.9-1.2 mg/kg (max 60 mg) 6 times daily, starting within 4 days of haemorrhage and continued for 21 days.

Hypotension, flushing, headache, changes in heart rate, GI upset. Transient rise in liver enzymes may occur with infusion. Allergic reactions.

What happens if I miss a dose of Bredin Infusion 10 mg 1 Vialx50 mL?

Adults: ORAL: 2 tab four hrly starting within 4 days of subarachnoid haemorrhage and continue for 21 days.
INFUSION: 1 mg/hr by IV infusion for first 2 hr, then 2 mg/hr for minimum 5 days, max 14 days. Patients weighing under 70 kg or with unstable BP, start on 0.5 mg/hr.
Children: Not recommended.
