How It Works
Fasenra (Benralizumab) is a monoclonal antibody used for the treatment of severe eosinophilic asthma. It works by targeting the interleukin-5 receptor alpha (IL-5Rα) on eosinophils, a type of white blood cell involved in the inflammatory response in asthma. Benralizumab induces apoptosis (programmed cell death) of eosinophils by attracting natural killer (NK) cells to the eosinophils, leading to their destruction. This helps to reduce the number of eosinophils in the blood and lungs, thereby decreasing inflammation and improving asthma control.
