How to use Fortazim Injection 1 gm 1 Vial

IM: Inject deep IM into large mass muscle. IV: Ceftazidime can be administered IVP over 3-5 min or IV intermittent infusion over 15-30 min; final concentration for IV administration should not exceed 100 mg/ mL. Rotate IV sites every 72 hours. Assess for phlebitis and extravasation.
Reconstitution: IV: For IV bolus, reconstitute 1-2 gm with 10 mL SWFI, D5W, or NaCl. Shake to dissolve. For intermittent infusion, further dilute in 50-100 mL D5W or NS. IM: Reconstitute each gm with 3 mL SWFI or bacteriostatic water for injection.
Compatibility: D5NS, D5W, NS, SWFI.
Stability: For reconstituted solution and IV infusion in NS or D5W solution is stable for 24 hours at room temperature, 10 days when refrigerated, or 12 weeks when frozen.

Pain at inj site, hypersensitivity reactions. Gl disturbances, candidiasis, eosinophilia, neutropenia, leucopenia, thrombocytopenia, rise in liver enzymes and blood urea. Positive Coomb’s test, phlebitis or thrombophlebitis, thrombocytosis, pseudomembranous colitis, haemolytic anaemia.

What happens if I miss a dose of Fortazim Injection 1 gm 1 Vial?

Adults: 1-6 gm/day in 2 or 3 divided doses by IV or IM inj. Children: Above 2 mth, 30-100 mg/kg/day in 2 or 3 divided doses; under 2 mth, 25-60 mg/kg/day in 2 divided doses.
Bone Infection: IV: Adults: 2 gm every 12 hr. Children: 1 mth-12 yr: 30-50 mg/kg every 8 hr, up to 6 gm/day. 0-4 wk: 30 mg/kg every 12 hr.
Meningitis: IV: Adults: 2 gm every 8 hr. Children: 1 mth-12 yr: 30-50 mg/kg every 8 hr, up to 6 gm/day. 0-4 wk: 30 mg/kg every 12 hr.
Septicaemia: IV: Adults: 2 gm every 8 hr. Children: 1 mth-12 yr: 30-50 mg/kg every 8 hr, up to 6 gm/day. 0-4 wk: 30 mg/kg every 12 hr.
