How it works
GLICAZ 80mg Tablet 2x10s binds to the β cell sulfonyl urea receptor (SUR1). This binding subsequently blocks the ATP sensitive potassium channels. The binding results in closure of the channels and leads to a resulting decrease in potassium efflux leads to depolarization of the β cells. This opens voltage-dependent calcium channels in the β cell resulting in calmodulin activation, which in turn leads to exocytosis of insulin containing secretorty granules.

Type II Diabetes Mellitus
GLICAZ 80mg Tablet 2x10s is used in the treatment of Type II Diabetes Mellitus which is a condition with elevated blood glucose levels in the body.
When not to use?

Allergy
Avoid taking this medicine if you have a known allergy to GLICAZ 80mg Tablet 2x10s or any other medicine belonging to the class sulphonylureas.

Diabetic ketoacidosis
Avoid taking this medicine if you have repeated episodes of diabetic ketoacidosis.

Impaired kidney function
Avoid taking this medicine in patients with impaired kidney function or history of severe kidney injury.

Hypoglycemia
GLICAZ 80mg Tablet 2x10s is not recommended in the patients with hypoglycemia as it increases the risk of lowering of blood glucose levels. Inform the doctor if you experience any symptoms like dizziness, confusion or weakness.

Impaired kidney function
GLICAZ 80mg Tablet 2x10s is not recommended in the patients suffering from a severe kidney imparement.

Impaired liver function
GLICAZ 80mg Tablet 2x10s is not recommended in the patients suffering from a severe liver impairment.

Hemolytic Anemia
GLICAZ 80mg Tablet 2x10s is not recommended in the patients with glucose-6-phosphate (G6PD) deficiency due to the risk of developing hemolytic anemia.

Missed Dose
The missed dose can be taken as soon as you remember. If it is time for the next dosage then the missed dose can be skipped.

Overdose
It is recommended to discontinue the medicine and contact your doctor immediately if an overdose is suspected. Symptoms like dizziness, confusion, increased heartbeat, tremor and sweating after taking the medicine should be reported immediately.

GLICAZ 80mg Tablet 2x10s is not recommended for use in people suffering from Hemolytic Anemia. Reporting this condition to the doctor is a must. In such cases, alternate medication not belonging to Sulfonylureas should be considered.
