Ifosfamide For Injection IP With Mesna Injection I.V. (Isoxan)
How It Works
Ifosfamide is an alkylating agent used in cancer chemotherapy. It works by interfering with the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body. Ifosfamide is a prodrug that requires activation by hepatic cytochrome P450 enzymes to form active metabolites. These metabolites alkylate DNA, resulting in the inhibition of DNA synthesis and cell division, ultimately leading to cell death. Mesna is co-administered with ifosfamide to prevent hemorrhagic cystitis, a common side effect of ifosfamide therapy, by binding to and neutralizing toxic metabolites of ifosfamide in the urine.
