Uses of Isdin tablet 10 mg 100’s
What is it prescribed for?

Angina pectoris
This medicine is used for the prevention of angina (chest pain) caused due to reduced flow of blood and oxygen to the heart. It is not effective in treating an acute episode of chest pain that has already set in.

Heart Failure
This medicine is also used for the treatment of heart failure caused due to failure of bottom left compartment of the heart.
When not to use?

Allergy
This medicine is not recommended for use if you have a known history of allergy to Isdin tablet 10 mg 100’s or any nitrate-containing medicines.

Anemia
This medicine is not recommended for use if you have anemia or low levels of hemoglobin in the blood.

Obstructive heart disease
This medicine is not recommended for use if you have a condition where the blood vessels in the heart have blockage due to swelling or narrowing.

Head trauma/ Increased intracranial pressure
This medicine is not recommended for use in patients having a severe head injury or the pressure in the brain is elevated.

Medicine for erectile dysfunction
This medicine is not recommended for use if you are taking medicines for the treatment of erectile dysfunction [Ex. Viagra (sildenafil)].

Other diseases
Report the incidence of all other diseases of the heart, lung, thyroid, kidney, liver etc to the doctor before receiving this medicine. All these conditions should be taken into consideration to ensure safe and effective use of this medicine.

Fall in blood pressure
Use of this medicine can cause a fall in blood pressure in general and may make you feel dizzy especially while getting up from lying or sitting position (Postural hypotension).

Withdrawal symptoms
Use of this medicine can cause drowsiness and affect the ability to drive or operate heavy machinery. Refrain from performing tasks that require a high level of mental alertness after taking this medicine.

Nitrate free interval
The likelihood of development of drug tolerance is very high if this medicine is taken very regularly. A minimal amount of nitrate free time is required to avoid tolerance is 10-12 hr/day. The tolerance developed is in general for nitrates and may affect other medicines containing nitrates (cross-tolerance).

Recurrent headaches
Use of this medicine may cause recurring headaches in some patients. These headaches can be treated using paracetamol or aspirin.

Blurred vision
Use of this medicine has been associated with a blurring of vision in some rare cases. Discontinue the use and contact your doctor at the first sign of an abnormality in vision.

Pediatric use
This medicine is not recommended for use in patients aged below 18 years.

Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose.

Overdose
Contact your doctor immediately if an overdose with this medicine is suspected. Symptoms of an overdose may include a severe headache, fever, nausea, vomiting, difficulty in breathing, excessive sweating etc.

This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patients suffering from a heart attack or heart failure. The uptake should be preceded by suitable clinical examinations to ensure safe and effective use.

This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patients who have low blood pressure. The risk of further lowering of blood pressure and associated adverse effects are significantly high.

This medicine should be used with caution in patients suffering from glaucoma. It should be prescribed only after accessing the condition and making suitable adjustments in dosage.
General Instructions
TakeIsdin tablet 10 mg 100’s as instructed by the doctor. Do not take in larger or smaller quantities than prescribed. Do not discontinue the use of this medicine abruptly. There should be sufficient time gap between two dosages.

How to use Isdin tablet 10 mg 100’s
By IV infusion diluted to a max concentration of 0.05% in NS or D5W. Also administered as an intra-coronary bolus inj during percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty.
what are the adverse effects of Isdin tablet 10 mg 100’s?
Postural hypotension, tachycardia (but paradoxical bradycardia also reported); throbbing headache, dizziness; less commonly nausea, vomiting, heartburn, flushing, syncope, temporary hypoxaemia, rash, application site reactions with transdermal patches; very rarely angle-closure glaucoma. Injection Specific side-effects include severe hypotension, diaphoresis, apprehension, restlessness, muscle twitching, retrosternal discomfort, palpitation, abdominal pain; prolonged administration has been associated with methaemoglobinaemia.
What happens if I miss a dose of Isdin tablet 10 mg 100’s?
ORAL: Elderly should be given lowest recommended daily dose initially then titrate upward.
Angina: Adults: 5-40 mg 4 times/day or 40 mg every 8-12 hr in sustained-release dosage form.
Congestive heart failure: Adults: Initial dose 10 mg 3 times daily; target dose 40 mg 3 times daily; max dose 80 mg 3 times daily. Sublingual Tab: 2.5-10 mg every 4-6 hr.
Children: Not recommended.
INJECTION: Adults: IV infusion, 2-10 mg/hr, higher doses up to 20 mg/hr may be required. Children: Not recommended.
