How It Works

Kyprolis (carfilzomib) is a proteasome inhibitor used in the treatment of multiple myeloma. It works by blocking the proteasome, a protein complex responsible for degrading unneeded or damaged proteins within cells. By inhibiting the proteasome, carfilzomib disrupts the degradation of these proteins, leading to an accumulation of proteins in the cancer cells. This accumulation causes stress and ultimately induces apoptosis (cell death) in the malignant cells, thereby reducing the tumor burden.
