How it works
This medicine works by reducing the movement of food and water from the stomach and intestine. The reduced bowel activity makes the food stay longer in the intestine resulting in increased absorption of water and symptoms of diarrhea are relieved.

Lopra capsule 2 mg 100’s is used for treating the symptoms of diarrhea that start suddenly and last for a couple of days.

Lopra capsule 2 mg 100’s is also used to treat diarrhea that lasts for a longer period of time and is usually associated with other diseases like Irritable bowel syndrome.

Traveler's Diarrhea
Lopra capsule 2 mg 100’s is also used to treat the symptoms of diarrhea associated with an infected gut, usually afflicting people who travel for a long duration of time.

Acute colitis
This medicine is not recommended for use in patients suffering from an infected colon or infectious diarrhea/dysentery. Symptoms may include bloody stools and high fever. The infection could be caused by Clostridium, Salmonella, Shigella or Campylobacter strains of bacteria.

Antibiotic induced diarrhea
This medicine is not recommended for use if you have an episode of diarrhea caused by consumption of an antibiotic.

Hypersensitivity
Use of this medicine may cause allergic reactions of the skin in some patients. Some cases of severe allergic conditions like Steven's Johnson Sundrome or Toxic epidermal necrolysis have been reported with the use of this medicine.

No symptomatic improvement
Use of this medicine should be discontinued if the symptoms do not improve within 48 hours in patients with acute diarrhea.

Liver disease
This medicine should be used with caution in patients with liver function impairment.

Heart conditions
Use of this medicine in large quantities may cause a severe adverse effect on the heart and blood vessels. Non-prescription use of this medicine must be avoided.

Other medicines

Use of medicines to treat heart conditions and infections should be informed to the doctor before taking this medicine.

Infectious diarrhea
Use of this medicine is not recommended for infectious diarrhea characterized by the presence of pus or blood in stools, high fever etc. Acute diarrhea and dysentery caused by bacteria should not be treated with this medicine.

AIDS
This medicine should be used with caution in patients having AIDS and taking antiviral medications.

Pediatric use
This medicine should be used with caution in patients aged below 6 years. Use in children below 2 years of age is not recommended.

Constipation
Use of this medication is not recommended in patients suffering from blockage of intestine and constipation.

Missed Dose
This medicine is not taken in a scheduled way and hence missing a dose is not possible. However, care should be taken to not exceed the daily recommended limit.

Overdose
Contact a doctor immediately if an overdose is suspected. Symptoms of overdose may include dizziness, confusion, severe stomach cramps and pain, constipation etc.

How to use Lopra capsule 2 mg 100’s
UNLICENSED USE
Children: Chronic diarrhoea: 1 mth-1 yr, 100-200 mcg/kg twice daily, 30 minutes before feeds; up to 2 mg/kg daily in divided doses occasionally required; 1-12 yr, 100-200 mcg/kg (max 2 mg) 3-4 times daily; up to 1.25 mg/kg daily in divided doses may be required (max 16 mg daily); 12-18 yr, 2-4 mg 2-4 times daily (max 16 mg daily).
Acute diarrhoea: 4-8 yr, 1 mg 3-4 times daily for up to 3 days only; 8-12 yr, 2 mg 4 times daily for up to 5 days only; 12-18 yr, Initially 4 mg, then 2 mg after each loose stool for up to 5 days (usual dose 6-8 mg daily; max 16 mg daily).

Rashes. Abdominal cramps, bloating, paralytic ileus, constipation, nausea, tiredness, dizziness, dry mouth.
What happens if I miss a dose of Lopra capsule 2 mg 100’s?
Cap/Tab: Acute diarrhoea: Adults: Initially 4 mg, then 2 mg at each loose stool (usually 3-4 daily). Max, 16 mg daily.
Chronic diarrhoea: Adults: Initially 4-8 mg, daily in divided doses.
Children: Not recommended.
Syrup: Acute diarrhoea: Children: 2-5 yrs, 5 mL three times a day, total daily dose not to exceed 15 mL. 5-8 yrs, 5 mL four times a day, total daily dose not to exceed 20 mL. 8-12 yrs, 10 mL 3 to 4 times a day, total daily dose not to exceed 40 mL.
