Mag-S Injection 10 Ampx2 mL corrects the magnesium levels in the blood. It decreases acetylcholine release, inhibits action potentials in the myocardium, favors movement of calcium, potassium, and sodium in and out of cells and also works by stabilizing the brain cells.

How to use Mag-S Injection 10 Ampx2 mL

IV: Concentration of magnesium sulphate should not exceed 20% of dilution.
Compatibility: Stable in D5W, NS, mannitol, KCl.

what are the adverse effects of Mag-S Injection 10 Ampx2 mL?

Associated with hypermagnesaemia, nausea, vomiting, thirst, flushing of skin, hypotension, arrhythmias, coma, respiratory depression, drowsiness, confusion, loss of tendon reflexes, muscle weakness; colic and diarrhoea following oral administration.

What happens if I miss a dose of Mag-S Injection 10 Ampx2 mL?

Eclampsia: Adults: Initially IV 4 gm of magnesium sulphate (approx 16 mmol Mg) over 20 min followed by IV infusion at a rate of 1 gm magnesium sulphate every hr. Recurrence of seizures may require an additional IV bolus of 2-4 gm magnesium sulphate.
Arrhythmias: Adults: IV injection of 8 mmol magnesium over 10-15 min, repeated if necessary.
Myocardial infarction: Adults: IV injection of 8 mmol magnesium over 20 min, followed by IV infusion of 65-72 mmol of magnesium over the following 24 hr.
Magnesium deficiency and hypomagnesaemia: Adults: 50 mmol of magnesium orally daily adjusted according to individual response. In acute or severe hypomagnesaemia: 35-50 mmol of magnesium by slow IV infusion (in glucose 5%) on the first day followed by 25 mmol daily until the hypomagnesaemia is corrected; up to a total of 160 mmol may be required. Alternatively by IM or slow IV.
