    Mectin tablet 3 mg 6’s is used in the treatment of onchocerciasis which is a parasitic worm infection caused by Onchocerca volvulus transmitted through the bite of black flies characterized by skin itching and vision impairment.

  • Strongyloidiasis

    Mectin tablet 3 mg 6’s is used in the treatment of strongyloidiasis which is an intestinal infection caused by a roundworm called Strongyloides stercoralis characterized by abdominal pain and diarrhea.

  • Scabies

    Mectin tablet 3 mg 6’s is used in the treatment of scabies which is a skin infection caused by the mite called Sarcoptes scabiei characterized by itching and red rashes on the skin.

General Warnings
  • Mazzotti reaction

    Patients being treated with Mectin tablet 3 mg 6’s for onchocerciasis may experience mazzotti reaction which are cutaneous and systemic adverse effect. These patients should be monitored closely. Supportive care should be initiated based on the severity.

  • Pretreatment assessment for Loa loa infection

    Patients with significant exposure to endemic areas and being treated with Mectin tablet 3 mg 6’s for onchocerciasis may have an increase in the risk of fatal encephalopathy. The symptoms include neck pain, red eye, urinary and fecal incontinence, mental status changes, seizures, or coma. Therefore, pretreatment assessment for loiasis is necessary.

  • Pediatric use

    This medicine is not recommended for children with body weight less than 15 kg.

Dosage

  • Missed Dose

    Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed dose.

  • Overdose

    Seek emergency medical treatment or contact the doctor in case of an overdose.

General Instructions

what are the adverse effects of Mectin tablet 3 mg 6’s?

Hypotension, mild ECG changes, peripheral and facial oedema, transient tachycardia. Dizziness, headache, hyperthermia, insomnia, somnolence, vertigo. Pruritus, rash, urticaria. Abdominal pain, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting. Eosinophilia, leukopenia. ALT/AST increased. Limbitis, myalgia, tremor, weakness. Blurred vision, mild conjunctivitis, punctate opacity.

What happens if I miss a dose of Mectin tablet 3 mg 6’s?

Adults & Children: 15 kg or above body weight: Strongyloidiasis: 200 mcg/kg as a single dose; follow up stool examinations
Onchocerciasis: 150 mcg/kg as a single dose; re-treatment may be required every 3-12 mth until the adult worms die.
