General Instructions

Take Nifedil tablet XL 30 mg 20’s capsule with or without food and the extended-release tablet should be taken on an empty stomach, either 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Do not take in larger amounts than advised. Inform the doctor if you experience any undesirable effects.

How to use Nifedil tablet XL 30 mg 20’s

UNLICENSED USE
Children: ORAL: Hypertensive crisis, acute angina in Kawasaki disease or progeria: 1 mth-18 yr, 250-500 mcg/kg (max 20 mg) as a single dose.
Hypertension, angina in Kawasaki disease or progeria: Child 1 mth-12 yr, 200-300 mcg/kg 3 times daily, max. 3 mg/kg daily or 90 mg daily; 12-18 yr, 5-20 mg 3 times daily, max 90 mg daily.
Raynaud’s syndrome: 2-18 yr, 2.5-10 mg 2-4 times daily; start with low doses at night and increase gradually to avoid postural hypotension.
Persistent hyperinsulinaemic hypoglycaemia: Neonate, 100-200 mcg/kg (max 600 mcg/kg) 4 times daily.

what are the adverse effects of Nifedil tablet XL 30 mg 20’s?

Headache, flushes, oedema, dizziness, tachycardia, hypotension, GI upset, vasodilatation, lethargy, paraesthesia, skin reactions, myalgia, tremor, visual disturbances, increased urinary frequency, gingival hyperplasia, gynaecomastia. Rarely hypersensitivity type jaundice, impotence, mood changes. MI, ischaemic pain (discontinue).

What happens if I miss a dose of Nifedil tablet XL 30 mg 20’s?

Adults: Angina: Initially 10 mg three times daily adjusted according to response, usually 10-20 mg three times daily with or after meals. If immediate effect required, bite capsule and allow liquid to remain in the mouth.
Hypertension: Initially 10-20 mg twice daily adjusting to response, usually 10-40 mg twice daily. Alternately 1 tab of 30 mg once daily, preferably in empty stomach; the dose, if necessary may be increased to 1 tab of 60 mg once daily.
Raynaud’s phenomenon: 10 mg three times daily with or after meals; max 20 mg three times daily.
Children: Not recommended.
