How it works

OPTA CARPINE 4% Eye Drops 5ml works by increasing the secretion of saliva in the mouth. The ophthalmic form of this medicine works by reducing the fluid pressure inside the eyes as well as reducing the size of the pupil.

What is it prescribed for?

  • Xerostomia

    This medicine is used for the treatment of abnormal dryness of the mouth (xerostomia) in patients undergoing radiotherapy for head and neck cancer and in patients with a Sjogren's syndrome, condition that affects the immune system and causes dryness of mouth and eyes.

  • Intraocular hypertension

    The ophthalmic form of this medicine is used to reduce fluid pressure inside the eyes for patients suffering from intraocular hypertension.

  • Open angle Glaucoma

    The ophthalmic form of this medicine is used in the treatment of open-angle glaucoma, a condition characterized by progressive damage to the optic nerve that may eventually lead to vision loss.

  • Narrow-angle glaucoma

    The ophthalmic form of this medicine is used in the treatment of narrow-angle glaucoma, a condition that occurs suddenly when the iris is pulled or pushed forward and there is a fluid build up behind the iris.

  • Production of miosis

    The ophthalmic and intracameral (injection into the eye chamber) forms of this medicine are used for the production of miosis (excessive constriction of the pupil of the eye) prior to and during ophthalmic surgeries as necessary.
