How It Works
Otezla (generic name apremilast) is a phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitor. It works by inhibiting the activity of PDE4, an enzyme that plays a role in the inflammatory process. By inhibiting PDE4, Otezla helps to reduce the production of inflammatory mediators such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and interleukin-23 (IL-23), which are involved in the pathogenesis of certain autoimmune diseases.

Indications
- Otezla is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe plaque psoriasis in adults who are candidates for phototherapy or systemic therapy.
- It is also indicated for the treatment of active psoriatic arthritis in adults.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to apremilast or any component of the formulation
- Severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance < 30 mL/min)
- Pregnancy (Otezla may cause fetal harm)
