polivy (polatuzumab vedotin-piiq)

Belongs to Category

How It Works

Polivy works by combining a monoclonal antibody with a chemotherapy drug. The monoclonal antibody component of Polivy specifically binds to CD79b, a protein found on the surface of B-cells. Once bound, the drug is internalized by the cell, where the attached chemotherapy agent, monomethyl auristatin E (MMAE), is released. MMAE disrupts the microtubule network within the cancer cell, which is essential for cell division, ultimately leading to cell death.

Polivy (polatuzumab vedotin-piiq) is a significant therapeutic option for patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) who have not responded to or have relapsed after previous treatments. By targeting the CD79b protein on B-cells, Polivy delivers a potent chemotherapy agent directly to the cancer cells, enhancing treatment efficacy while minimizing systemic exposure. Patients should be aware of potential side effects and contraindications, and discuss these with their healthcare provider. The cost of Polivy varies significantly across different countries, reflecting differences in healthcare systems and pricing strategies.
