General Warnings
  • Impaired liver function

  • QT prolongation

    Respimax suspension 125 mg 60 mL should be used with caution in the patients receiving QT prolongation medications as it can increase the risk of arrhythmia. Frequent monitoring of heart function is necessary and an alternate medicine should be considered.

  • Drug-resistance

    Respimax suspension 125 mg 60 mL without sufficient proof or suspicion of a bacterial infection should be avoided. Irrational dosing might fail in providing the benefits and even cause toxicity. It may also increase the risk of development of bacteria that is drug resistant.

How to use Respimax suspension 125 mg 60 mL

For IV administration only. 500 mg should be administered into one of the larger proximal veins as an IV infusion over 60 mins, using a solution concentration of about 2 mg/mL. Clarithromycin should not be given as a bolus or an IM injection.

GI upset, paraesthesia, stomatitis, glossitis, oral monilia, tongue or tooth discolouration, headache, arthralgia, myalgia, rash, transient CNS effects, allergic reactions, hepatic dysfunction, reversible hearing loss. Rarely, pseudomembranous colitis, hypoglycaemia, leucopenia, thrombocytopenia, renal dysfunction, QT prolongation, vasodilation, hyperhidrosis, insomnia, headache, dysgeusia, C.difficile associated diarrhoea.

What happens if I miss a dose of Respimax suspension 125 mg 60 mL?

ORAL: Adults: 500 mg once daily or 250 mg twice daily with food for 7 to 14 days. Severe infections, 500 mg twice daily. Children: All twice daily. Under 1 yr, 7.5 mg/kg; 1-2 yr, 2.5 mL (62.5 mg); 3-6 yr, 5 mL (125 mg); 7-9 yr, 7.5 mL (187.5 mg); 10-12 yr, 10 mL (250 mg).
Lower Respiratory Tract Infections: Adults: 250-500 mg every 12 hr for 7-14 days. Children:gt; 6 mth: 7.5 mg/kg every 12 hr for 10 days.
Upper Respiratory Tract Infections: Adults: Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis: 250 mg every 12 hr for 10 days.
Sinusitis: 500 mg every 12 hr for 14 days. Children: gt; 6 mth: Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis/Sinusitis: 7.5 mg/kg every 12 hr for 10 days.
INJECTION: Adults & Children: Over 12 yr: By IV, 500 mg twice daily.
Mycobacterium Avium Complex: Prevention & Treatment: Adults: 1000 mg twice daily. Children: gt;20 mth: 7.5 mg/kg every 12 hr. Max: 500 mg every 12 hr.
Otitis Media: Children: gt;6 mth: 7.5 mg/kg every 12 hr for 10 days.
Skin Infection: Adults: 250 mg every 12 hr for 7-14 days. Children: gt;6 mth: 7.5 mg/kg every 12 hr for 10 days.
