Spinraza (Nusinersen) 12mg/5ml injection
Spinraza (nusinersen) is a prescription medication used to treat spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) in pediatric and adult patients. Each vial contains 12 mg of nusinersen in a 5 ml solution for intrathecal injection (injection into the spinal canal), designed to deliver the medication directly to the central nervous system.
How It Works
Nusinersen is an antisense oligonucleotide that targets and binds to a specific sequence of RNA, leading to increased production of survival motor neuron (SMN) protein. SMN protein is critical for the maintenance of motor neurons, and its deficiency is the underlying cause of SMA. By enhancing SMN protein levels, Spinraza helps improve motor function and slows the progression of SMA.
