How It Works

Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate is a prodrug that, once ingested, is converted in the body to tenofovir. Tenofovir then inhibits the activity of reverse transcriptase, an enzyme critical for the replication of HIV and hepatitis B viruses. By blocking reverse transcriptase, tenofovir prevents the viruses from multiplying and reduces the viral load in the blood, helping to manage the infection.
