Triumeq 50 mg/600 mg/300 mg film-coated tablets
Triumeq is a prescription medication used for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Each film-coated tablet contains three active ingredients: 50 mg of dolutegravir, 600 mg of abacavir, and 300 mg of lamivudine. This combination works to control HIV infection by preventing the virus from multiplying in the body.
How It Works
Triumeq contains three antiviral agents that work together to manage HIV infection:
- Dolutegravir: An integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI) that blocks the action of the integrase enzyme, which is needed for HIV to integrate its genetic material into the host cell DNA. This prevents the virus from replicating.
- Abacavir: A nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) that interferes with the reverse transcriptase enzyme, which is necessary for HIV to replicate. By incorporating itself into the viral DNA, it causes chain termination during DNA synthesis.
- Lamivudine: Another NRTI that works similarly to abacavir, inhibiting the reverse transcriptase enzyme and preventing viral replication.
