The cystitis and typical inflammatory reactions (Granulomatous) which occur in the mucosa of the urinary bladder after instillation of BCG and which cause these symptoms, may be an essential part of the anti-tumour activity of the BCG instillation. During the maintenance treatment course, the symptoms of cystitis may be more pronounced and prolonged. Malaise, a low grade fever and/or a flu like syndrome. Fever higher than 39°C. Systemic infection due to traumatic catheterization, bladder perforation or early BCG instillation after extensive TUR of urothelial cell carcinoma. Granulomatous prostatitis. In rare cases, arthritis/arthralgia, major haematuria, skin rash, transient urethral obstruction, orchitis or bladder contracture may occur.

BRAND: ONCOTICE: Adults: For instillation the contents of one ampoule of OncoTICE, reconstituted and diluted as indicated, are instilled in the urinary bladder. If OncoTICE is used as an adjuvant therapy after TUR of superficial urothelial cell carcinoma of the bladder, the OncoTICE therapy should be started between 10 and 15 days after performing the TUR. Both the OncoTICE therapy for treatment of Tis of the bladder and the OncoTICE adjuvant therapy after TUR of superficial urothelial cell carcinoma of the bladder comprise the weekly instillation of OncoTICE for 6 consecutive wk. This schedule may be repeated once if the clinical circumstance warrant. Subsequently it can be followed by a maintenance treatment. The maintenance treatment course should be started after a treatment free interval of 4 to 6 wk following termination of the initial 6 wk treatment period. During the maintenance treatment course, OncoTICE is instilled once a mth during a period of max 12 consecutive mth. Whether this maintenance treatment course should be given or not should be evaluated in each patient & mainly depends on number of cancer fossil and the recurrence rate of the tumour.
