Raxone 150 mg film-coated tablets

Belongs to Category,

Raxone (idebenone) 150 mg film-coated tablets are used in the treatment of Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON). LHON is a rare mitochondrial genetic disorder that leads to loss of vision. Idebenone is a synthetic analog of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) and functions as an antioxidant. Raxone is specifically indicated for patients with LHON to help preserve and improve visual acuity.

How It Works

Idebenone, the active ingredient in Raxone, works by enhancing the function of mitochondria and reducing oxidative stress. In LHON, mutations in mitochondrial DNA impair the function of the mitochondrial respiratory chain, leading to increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and cell damage. Idebenone acts as an electron carrier within the mitochondrial electron transport chain, bypassing the defective complex I and reducing ROS production. This helps to preserve the function of retinal ganglion cells and maintain visual acuity.
