General Warnings
  • Dementia- related psychosis

    Vizamed tablet 1 mg 10’s is not approved for use in patients with dementia-related psychosis due to the increase risk of death.

  • Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome

    Vizamed tablet 1 mg 10’s should be discontinued immediately if the patient develops Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome characterized by an increase in the body temperature, muscle rigidity, altered consciousness.

  • Tardive dyskinesia

    Vizamed tablet 1 mg 10’s may cause involuntary movements of tongue, lips, and face. Inform the doctor if you have these symptoms. Gradual dose reduction or discontinuation of the medicine should be considered.

  • Diabetes and Dyslipidemia

    Vizamed tablet 1 mg 10’s may increase the blood glucose levels and lipids levels in the body. Assess these parameters before initiation of the treatment and regular monitoring of blood glucose and body weight is necessary.

  • Seizures

    Vizamed tablet 1 mg 10’s is used with caution in the patients with a history of seizures or with conditions that lower the seizure threshold

  • Pediatric use

    The safety and effectiveness of Vizamed tablet 1 mg 10’s is not established in the children with schizophrenia who are less than 13 years of age and bipolar disorder who are less than 10 years of age.

  • Elderly population

    Vizamed tablet 1 mg 10’s is used with caution in the elderly population due to the increased risk of orthostatic hypotension and kidney injury.

Dosage

  • Missed Dose

    Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed dose.

    Seek emergency medical treatment or contact the doctor in case of an overdose.

General Instructions

How to use Vizamed tablet 1 mg 10’s

Administered by IM into the upper outer quadrant of the gluteal area. Injection should alternate between the two buttocks. Reconstitute with provided diluent only. Do not combine two different dosage strengths into one single administration. It should be administered every 2 weeks by deep IM deltoid or gluteal injection. Each injection should be administered by an expert using an enclosed safety needle. For deltoid administration, use the 1-inch needle, alternating injection between the 2 arms. For gluteal administration, use the 2-inch needle, alternating between the 2 buttocks. Do not administer IV.
Stability: After reconstitution, store at room temperature and use within 6 hours.

UNLICENSED USE
Children: ORAL: Acute and chronic psychosis: 12-18 yr, 2 mg in 1-2 divided doses on first day then 4 mg in 1-2 divided doses on second day (slower titration appropriate in some children), usual range 4-6 mg/day; doses above 10 mg daily only if benefit considered to outweigh risk, max 16 mg/day.
Short-term monotherapy of mania in bipolar disorder: 12-18 yr, initially 500 mcg once daily adjusted in steps of 0.5-1 mg daily according to response, usual dose 2.5 mg daily in 1-2 divided doses, max 6 mg/day.
Short-term treatment of severe aggression in autism: Over 5 yr and 15-20 kg, 250 mcg daily increased if necessary after at least 4 days to 500 mcg/day, thereafter increased by 250 mcg/day at 2 wk intervals to max 1 mg daily; Over 5 yr and over 20 kg, 500 mcg daily increased if necessary after at least 4 days to 1 mg/day; thereafter increased by 500 mcg daily at 2-wk intervals, max daily dose 2.5 mg if under 45 kg; max daily dose 3 mg if over 45 kg.

what are the adverse effects of Vizamed tablet 1 mg 10’s?

Orthostatic hypotension, reflex tachycardia, extra-pyramidal symptoms. Galactorrhoea, menstrual disturbance. Sexual dysfunction, insomnia, anxiety, agitation, headache, fatigue, dizziness, impaired concentration, weight gain gastrointestinal disturbance, rhinitis, rash, blurred vision. Rarely, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, water intoxication with hyponatraemia, seizures.

What happens if I miss a dose of Vizamed tablet 1 mg 10’s?

Adults: ORAL: Antipsychotics: Schizophrenia: Over 15 yr, day one, 1 mg twice daily; day two, 2 mg twice daily; day three 3 mg twice daily. Max 8 mg twice daily. Elderly: Initially 0.5 mg twice daily increasing in 0.5 mg increments to 1-2 mg twice daily.
Bipolar Disorder: Acute Manic & Mixed Episodes: Monotherapy or adjunct therapy with lithium or valproate: Initial: 2-3 mg daily. Titrate: Increase by 1 mg daily. Max 6 mg/day.
Adults: INJECTION: By deep IM injection into the deltoid or gluteal muscle, Patients taking oral risperidone up to 4 mg daily, initially 25 mg IM every 2 wk; Patients taking oral risperidone over 4 mg daily, initially 37.5 mg IM every 2 wk; dose adjusted at intervals of at least 4 wk in steps of 12.5 mg to max 50 mg IM every 2 wk.
Children: ORAL: Short-term treatment (up to 6 wk) of persistent aggression in conduct disorder: 5-18 yr and body-weight under 50 kg, initially 250 mcg once daily increased according to response in steps of 250 mcg on alternate days, usual dose 500 mcg daily (up to 750 mcg once daily has been required); 5-18 yr and body-weight over 50 kg, initially 500 mcg once daily increased according to response in steps of 500 mcg on alternate days, usual dose 1 mg daily (up to 1.5 mg once daily has been required).
