This medicine is used for the treatment of infections of the throat and airways leading to the lungs, namely tonsillitis and pharyngitis, caused by bacteria such as Streptococcus pyogenes.

This medicine is used in the treatment of otitis media (middle ear infection) caused by bacteria such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, staphylococci, Streptococcus pyogenes, etc.

Clostridium difficile-associated DiarrheaImpaired kidney function
Antibiotic therapy will cause an imbalance in the normal microbial flora of the large intestine, which may promote the growth of a bacteria called Clostridium difficile and you may experience severe diarrhea as a result. Report any such incidence to the doctor on priority and avoid usage of this medicine in these cases.

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with a known history of renal impairment due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects. Close monitoring of kidney function, appropriate dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition of the patient.

How to use Zinacef tablet 250 mg 14’s
IM: Inject deep IM into large muscle mass. IV: Inject direct IV over 3-5 min. Infuse intermittent infusion over 15-30 min.
Reconstitution: IM: Add 3 or 3.6 mL SWFI to each 750 mg vial to yield 220 mg/mL.
Compatibility: Stable in D5¼NS, D5½NS, D5NS, D5W, D10W, LR, NS.
Stability: Reconstituted solution is stable for 24 hours at room temperature and 48 hours when refrigerated. For IV infusion in NS or D5W, solution is stable for 24 hours at room temperature, 1 week when refrigerated, or 26 weeks when frozen.
what are the adverse effects of Zinacef tablet 250 mg 14’s?
Hypersensitivity reactions, Gl disturbances. Rarely pain at inj site, candidiasis, eosinophilia, neutropenia, leucopenia, transient rise in liver enzymes, blood urea. Positive Coomb’s test, headache, dizziness, candida overgrowth, decreased haemoglobin, pseudomembranous colitis, haemolytic anaemia.
What happens if I miss a dose of Zinacef tablet 250 mg 14’s?
ORAL: Adults: Most infections and bronchitis, usually 250 mg twice daily.
Severe infections and pneumonia: 500 mg twice daily.
Gonorrhoea: 1 gm as a single dose. Children: 3-6 mth (4-6 kg body wt): 40-60 mg; 6 mth-2 yr, 60-120 mg; 2-12 yr: 125 mg. All twice daily.
Lower Respiratory Infection: Adults & Children: gt;13 yr: 250-500 mg twice daily for 5-10 days.
Upper Respiratory Infection: Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis/ Sinusitis: Adults: 250 mg every 12 hr for 10 days. Children: gt;13 yr: 250 mg every 12 hr for 10 days.
Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis: Children: 3 mth-12 yr, 125 mg every 12 hr for 10 days or 10 mg/kg every 12 hr for 10 days. Max: 500 mg/day.
Sinusitis: Children: 3 mth-12 yr, 250 mg every 12 hr for 10 days or 15 mg/kg every 12 hr for 10 days. Max: 1 gm/day.
Otitis Media: Children: 3 mth-12 yr: 15 mg/kg every 12 hr for 10 days. Max: 1 gm/day.
Urinary Tract Infection: Adults & Children: gt; 13 yr: 125-250 mg every 12 hr for 7-10 days.
INJECTION: Adults: Usually 750 mg three times daily by IM or IV inj, can be increased in severe infections to 1.5 gm three times daily by IV inj. Infants & Children: 30-100 mg/kg/day in 3-4 divided doses. Neonates: 30-100 mg/kg/day in 2-3 divided doses.
Bone Infection: IM/IV: Adults: 1.5 gm every 8 hr. Children: gt; 3 mth: 50 mg/kg every 8 hr. Max: 4.5 gm/day.
Meningitis: IV: Adults: 1.5 gm every 6 hr. Max: 3 gm every 8 hr. Children: gt; 3 mth: 200-240 mg/kg/day divided every 6-8 hr.
Septicaemia: IV: Adults: 1.5 gm every 6-8 hr. Children: gt; 3 mth: 100 mg/kg/day given every 6-8 hr. Max: 4.5 gm/day.
